Job Description - Recreation Director
The following is a Job Description for the position of Recreation Director for the City of Ironton, Ohio. The person who holds this position is a full time employee of the City of Ironton, Ohio. he/she is directly responsible to the Mayor.
Duties are as follows:
Keep all power equipment in running order by performing all maintenance such as oil changes, oil checks, blades sharpened, etc.
Perform perpetual maintenance at all public playgrounds and parks within the city. Maintenance includes grass cutting, trimming, tree limb removal, grooming around playground equipment, removing any garbage or debris that is left as trash or litter.
Currently the playgrounds & parks are as follows:
Etna Street Park: 4th & Etna Street, The Iron Trails Park (formerly known as Moulton Field): 8th, & Lawrence Street. [This park includes the walking trail that circles the playground area and includes the old DTI railroad. Beechwood Park: 9th & Bob Lutz Way Owned by the school but we help maintain Edna Kopaz Park: 8th & McGovney Streets.
For the past three years the Recreation Director and crew has also cut grass at the Soccer Fields located at 9th & Lorain Streets. The Soccer Association has paid the department $ 75 after each cut. (contact John Schwab).
The Recreation Director has been responsible for organizing the cheerleader squads for the youth football teams. The duties of the director is to work with the advisory committee in the selection of squad advisors as well as squad selections, choosing uniforms, determining costs, and choosing and organizing fund raisers necessary to pay for the uniforms.
The Recreation Director does not run the Youth Football program. However, this person should be available to the coaches of the Ironton teams to assist with tryouts, team draft, and preparation of the field for home game dates. This program starts in July with registration and continues until late October.
Ironton Youth Basketball for girls and boys is organized entirely by the recreation director. This program starts with a player registration in late October. Schedule preparation must be done through the Athletic Director of the Ironton City Schools, and in cooperation with the Custodial Supervisor of the fronton City Schools. The basketball season includes pre -season practice beginning in mid November and runs until mid to late February. The recreation director must organize the entire league including getting the game officials.
Each Halloween season a parade is scheduled in downtown Ironton. The recreation director assists as needed with this event. It is a joined effort of the City of Ironton, certain civic clubs (Ironton Lions Club) and the IBA.
